Bio
Megan Jeanette Myers, Interim Associate Dean, is Professor and Chair in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. She has co-directed the Languages and Cultures for Professions program since 2019, directs study abroad programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, and was a Fulbright Scholar to the Dominican Republic in 2021-2022.
Myers attended Middlebury College in Vermont where she received a B.A. in Spanish with minors in Portuguese and Secondary Education and later attended Vanderbilt University where she completed her M.A. and Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature. Myers is the author of two books of literary criticism, Mapping Hispaniola: Third Space in Dominican and Haitian Literature (2019) and Neighbor-Homes: Julia Alvarez and Edwidge Danticat Write the Island and the Diaspora (2025). She is also the co-editor of The Border of Lights Reader: Bearing Witness to Genocide in the Dominican Republic (2021), recipient of the Haiti-Dominican Republic Section LASA Anthology Prize. Myers’ primary area of research is Caribbean literature with secondary areas of interest in Community Engagement and Languages for Specific Purposes.
As Interim Associate Dean, Myers will build on both previous experiences in administrative roles both on- and off-campus and on leadership training at Iowa State, the Modern Language Association, and other national organizations to advocate for student success initiatives in LAS. In the Associate Dean role, Myers will bring a student-centered, collaborative, engaged, and glass-half-full approach to her work.
