The goal of the reinstatement process is to provide support and resources for Iowa State University students to help them return to ISU and achieve future academic success after being dismissed. The reinstatement process assists students in creating a well thought out plan with concrete academic goals so that they can move forward to degree completion.
The following reinstatement petition process must be followed for consideration to resume your studies at Iowa State University. All petitions for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) are reviewed by the LAS Academic Standards and Admissions Committee.
Categories of reinstatement
There are several types of reinstatement that depend upon your classification level and whether this is a first or second reinstatement. Those categories include:
- First reinstatement – for students who have been dismissed a single time, students have to wait one full semester before they can
- Second reinstatement – for students who have been dismissed two times, students have to wait two full semesters before they can apply for reinstatement.
- Immediate or Early Reinstatement – reserved for juniors and seniors, potentially allows students to be reinstated without the one or two semester delay.
