Placement

Math Placement

Math placement information is required of all students entering Iowa State. The Math Placement Assessment is completed online using the ALEKS system.

  • I lost my Orientation packet! Send us an email requesting a new Orientation packet and we will mail it to you.
  • I can only attend one day of orientation. Which day should I attend? Orientation is a two-day program. If you are not able to attend both days, please call 515-294-6509 regarding your options for scheduling classes once all orientation sessions have ended.
  • Do I need to stay overnight in the residence halls during orientation? No, that is just one option Iowa State provides as a convenience to you. You are welcome to make your own arrangements for overnight accommodations if you need to stay in the Ames area.
  • I will be taking AP calculus exams later this year. Do I still need to take the online math assessment? Yes, all students entering Iowa State University are required to take the ALEKS math assessment through their AccessPlus account.
  • Are there activities that the younger siblings can participate in while attending? Yes, there is a program for family members in 5th-9th grade called Cy’s Sibs.
