Heritage of Latinos/as/x in the Americas Learning Community (HOLA)

Majors eligible to join:
HOLA provides a supportive, engaging experience for ALL majors, including Latinx, Transfer, Open Option, and culturally curious students who want to fulfill their Arts and Humanities requirement, the US Diversity requirement, and the ISU Comm. English 250 requirement while making lifetime friendships.

Program description:
HOLA is a new United States Latinx Studies (USLS) Learning Community, which offers a high impact learning experience for students, through interconnected programming led by an ISU faculty member in the Department of World Languages and Cultures and a bi-lingual Ph.D. in the English Department. Students work closely with peer mentors and engage multi-pronged learning practices.
HOLA links a section of USLS 211: Intro to Latinx Studies with English 250: Written, Oral, Visual and Electronic Composition to introduce students to issues of diversity and inclusion from the perspective of Latinos/as/x. The context is multidimensional, drawing from social, economic, historical, political, filmic and literary studies, encouraging sophisticated, college level communication skills that will be useful in jobs including advertising, agriculture, business, law, social work, and politics.
